It seems that in the last week or so I have had little time for the online world which is pretty awesome! I've spent half of the last 10 days living in a tent, fished the St. Joe River, rafted the Clark Fork River and drank my weight in beer. Overall I would say this summer is way above average but eventually reality will set in and I will have to find some work but until then I have to keep up with western living. Next weekend looks like another float down the Clark, a trip to the Superior Rodeo and a night in Missoula seeing the band Cake at Big Sky Brewing. Expect a more comprehensive post next week detailing all the awesome that will happen! Oh and here is a picture of the bull moose I came up on hiking Canfield last week.

Camping ay Notellum Creek and Cold Beer
Had an awesome time camping in the wilds of Idaho at my favorite spot. Can't take credit for finding this spot Pete Wilson showed me this place a few years back and he would kill me if I told you exactly where it is. The fishing was great, a dozen or so native cuttys 1 white fish and 1 ugly behemoth of a pike minnow that measured in at about 21 inches. No pictures of the fish left the camera in the tent but here is a couple of the area.
Since then I have been enjoying the fine selection of brews from my local store Pilgrims which is only a 10 minute walk up the road. Soon I will be posting reviews of some of the awesome western ipas. Also the title indicates BBQ as part of this blog and I have yet to run the big green egg smoker but that will happen soon, yesterday I picked up a local dry rub that tastes really good so it is time to experiment. Here is a picture of the local stores selection and a side by side of 1 of my favorite east coast beers and west.

Hot day on the St. Joe
It was a hot day fishing in Northern Idaho yesterday but that did not hurt the fishing. I have been fishing the St. Joe for the last 5 years and now I can call it my river. I fished one of my favorite stretches for about 7 hours and netted 17 Westslope Cutthroats from 8 inches up to 15. Here is a couple of pictures and as you can see I'm not as good as the guy who took the pictures of my brookies

Small Hiatus but it was worth it
I took the last few days off from posting for 2 reasons:
1. southern Utah lacks high speed internet
2. I have been busy driving ( 15 hours yesterday to make it to Coeur d'Alene)
Had a blast with dad in Vegas but we definitely did not win big this time. From there I drove through one of my absolute favorite areas of the country Zion National Park.
From there I drove through the Bryce Canyon area:
So after that I stayed in Boulder Utah for 2 nights and had the best day of fishing of my entire life thanks to Steve Stoner at www.bouldermountainguide.com. The following are only a few of the 50 or so Brook Trout I caught over a 10 hour period, they were all about this size.
So now I'm relaxing in Coeur d'Alene with a cold Rainier getting ready to fish the St. Joe tomorrow!

Flagstaff
Long drive from Elk City to flagstaff. What a difference a day makes, thick forests of Tennessee turn into the high desert of Arizona. Man I really missed the desert, even had a bit of rain coming out of Albuquerque! Kick ass Mexican dinner at Salsa brava, try it out if you are ever in Flagstaff. 22 ounce dos Equis and tequila shots! Tomorrow Vegas!
15 hours and 3.2
Not much to post about do to the fact that there is nothing in Arkansas. I have never been any where as flat and empty. I can see why it is not the vacation capital of America, I hear the ozarks are pretty nice but we didn't get there. We ended our marathon drive in elk city Oklahoma with a steak dinner and 3.2% coors banquet, at least it was cold. If you are into Internet searches there is a funny blue grass song about 3.2 but I can't remember the name of the band. Off to flagstaff today

Back aches, tstorms, jersey and something about Cracker Barrel
Got a not so early start this morning(6am). Made good time to jersey until the sky opened up and dumped 4 inches of rain in 20 minutes, it was like high tide on I287! Back started to hurt at hour 11 so switched with my copilot bob-o. Looking to stay in Knoxville tonight maybe further. Interesting fact or something I completely made up there are more Cracker Barrels on I81 then McDonalds, people must really love crappy food.

Good night of fishing
Some times fly fishing in the east can be pretty good. Here is a couple of pictures of a couple of nice browns Glenn and I caught in Gilsum earlier this week

An attempt at staying in touch
I've created this blog as an attempt to stay in contact with people as I embark on my great adventure to the wild west. I also really talking about food, fishing and beer s this appears to be a good idea. So enjoy the site and hopefully I keep interest in it.
